Upcoming Events/Solidarity Actions

Join a Day of Action for Medicaid and our Hospitals in Brattleboro on Saturday, Sept 19th!

11am, Centre Congregational Church Lawn, 193 Main St. Brattleboro

On Sept. 19th, the national Nonviolent Medicaid Army is taking action in 15 states to say: No Hurdles, Cuts, or Closures — Healthcare is a Human Right! The Great Medicaid Purge of 2023 cut 25 million people off Medicaid in just one year. Now, the Big Beautiful Bill for Billionaires will cause millions more to lose their healthcare, while accelerating the epidemic of hospital and health center closures. Join us in Brattleboro to connect the fight for Medicaid, for our hospitals, and for a system that treats healthcare as a human right.

AFT Vermont Locals in Action!

United Academics are delighted to announce an incredible victory for their members. Thanks to union pressure, member organizing and collective solidarity we have forced the University of Vermont to offer a settlement on the Percent Effort Standardization. Protecting our members from being forced to take on any additional work.

The agreement, ratified by our Delegates Assembly, includes language that:

  • Prevents faculty from being assigned more than 8 course equivalencies per academic year (except as voluntary overload work for additional pay)
  • Ensures no faculty’s FTE will be reduced post standardization
  • Stops faculty from being required to take on additional workloads or assignments.
  • Safeguards new faculty from taking on workloads larger than their peers in their department, school or college

This victory is thanks to the tireless efforts of our members who organized, petitioned, rallied and worked with their fellow members to keep pressure on the administration and force them to listen to our demands. It is also thanks to the collaboration and support of our sister organizations, such as UVMSU, who showed up and showed out and demanded that UVM come to the table and listen to the faculty Union.

This victory is a testament to solidarity and Union power, when we fight as a collective, we will always win.
